Top 5 Thoughts of the Day
1. Everyone deserves a sick day once in a while. Especially if your right gland is swollen and left ring toe is broken. And you have a week’s worth of television to watch.
2. Although the junior jolt is going strong (see: year of Andrea/Penny). It certainly is draining. It’s been two weeks and I can’t seem to get into the swing of things. It took getting sick and taking a day off to catch up mentally.
3. For some reason, I just can’t seem to get “I Like the Way You Move” out of my head. The song is surely a masterpiece.
4. Interning in the music industry ROCKS. Tickets (working for a music promoter), CDs (working for a distributor) and Billboard Magazine (mysteriously showed up in my mailbox). Music Nerd Winning.
5. A tastemaker: someone who sets trends and helps determine what is deemed popular by mainstream culture. and how do you get selected as a tastemaker? Do you display a particularly unique fashion sense? Do you listen to obscure music that no one has heard (yet)? Do you appreciate abstract art more than the average person? Do you think you are particularly influential?
The label “tastemaker” is so pretentious and conceited. Who are you to consider your choices groundbreaking? Never tell someone they are a tastemaker, it leads to unfortunate pop culture decisions and trends (see: Mean Girls)
tv hangover: 10 Reasons You Should Be Watching Happy Endings
When Happy Endings premiered mid-season last April people called it a Friends knock off. The Friends reference is mostly because it revolves around 6 friends who hang out and do stuff. The pilot wasn’t great (and they usually aren’t anyway), but it set up the premise. Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and and Dave (Zachary Knighton) are about to get married when Alex gets all runaway bride. This leaves the four remaining friends: Jane (Eliza Coupe), Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.), Penny (Casey Wilson), and Max (Adam Palley) to deal with the repercussions of this break up. The remainder of the season doesn’t focus solely on Alex and Dave like I thought it would, but really develops each character and their personality traits. Each character had brilliant moments throughout the short season and even the premiere episode of the second season came out strong. What I’m saying this is one of the best comedies on TV right now and there’s really no excuse for you to not watch it… (click through to read the list)
11. Damon Wayans Jr. continues the reign of the Wayans brand of comedy on TV (see: In Living Color, The Wayans Bros) with his metrosexual — and maybe gay — Brad.

The New Girl pilot did not disappoint
But part of the reason is because the trailer gives away all the best moments of the pilot. Not that it’s a bad thing. The show that promised to be quirky and hilarious and offbeat delivered on every point and still managed to warm your heart.
You really feel for Jess. She’s awkward in the ways you are in private. She’s positive in the ways you wish you could. And she’s hurt just like you’ve been hurt before.
I can’t wait for the next episode and see where the show goes. An great pilot is one thing, an awesome show is completely different. Something that I’m not thrilled about: Schmidt. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Max Greenfield as Leo in Veronica Mars. LOVE. but that doesn’t mean I accept his turn as a supremely self involved douche. The douche jar is hilarious, but the fact that he actually needs one is a disappointment. and why the hell does he continues to take off his shirt in such awkward moments?? not necessary.
Although I’m sad Damon Wayans Jr’s coach is out, I’m glad that Happy Endings (one of the funniest shows on TV) gets to continue. It has everything: the exes that just can’t get over it, the chronically single gal pal, the married fogies, and the uncharacteristically butch gay man (my favorite). If I had to recommend the five shows that you should watch (not including the new ones this season), it would have to be:
- Modern Family
- Happy Endings
- How I Met Your Mother
- Awkward
- Two and a Half Men (just to see how Ashton Kutcher does)
I’ll let you know what I think once the new shows have all premiered.
